Homowo is a harvest festival celebrated by the Ga people. The Ga people celebrate Homowo in the remembrance of the famine that once happened in their history in precolonial Ghana.
The festival is organized to urge the gods to furnish their food stores with endless food supplies. The elders and chiefs pour libations, dot the city with a traditional meal called kpokpoi as a means to drive away streaks of famine, and pray for a bountiful harvest.

Kpokpoi is made from steamed and fermented corn meal, palm nut soup and smoked fish
How long does the Homowo festival last for and where?
This is a month long festival that takes place in and around Accra there are a number of different events, showcases, music and food events that take up the whole of August in Accra you can not miss them.
