AFS Members Night screening of “City of God (2002, Brazil)” directed by Fernando Meirelles, Kátia Lund. Synopsis: City of God follows the lives of young people growing up in the dangerous Cidade de Deus favela in Rio de Janeiro between the 1960s and 1980s. The story is told through Rocket, an aspiring photographer who hopes to escape the violence surrounding him, while his childhood friend Li’l Zé becomes one of the area’s most feared drug lords.As gang wars and crime take over the neighborhood, Rocket documents the harsh realities of life in the favela while trying to avoid becoming part of the violence himself.
