The Akosombo Dam, also known as the Volta Dam, is a hydroelectric dam on the Volta River in southeastern Ghana in the Akosombo gorge and part of the Volta River Authority. Which is powered by the worlds largest man made lake, Lake Volta.
The dam waswas conceived in 1915 but was built in 1965 as part of manu project the first president of Ghana Kwame Nkumruh set about about putting into place. The dam provides electricity to Ghana and its neighboring West African countries, including Togo and Benin. It can be said that there is many reasons why Ghana is a very important source of power for West Africa.
