Western North Region

The Western North Region is one of the six new regions of Ghana  which was created in 2019. To create the region the Western Region was split into two to create Western and Western North. So the region shares much of the same cultural and tourist attractions that could be found in the whole of the Western Region of Ghana. As a new region there is also a new capital called Sefwi Wiawso

The region is bounded by the Ivory Coast (Comoé District) on the west, the Central region in the southeast, and the Ashanti, Ahafo, Bono East and Bono regions in the north. The Western North Region has the highest rainfall in Ghana, lush green hills, and fertile soils. There are numerous small and large-scale gold mines companies in the region. The ethnic culture of the region is dominated by the Sefwis. The main languages spoken are Sefwi, Akan, French and English.

Attractions in the Western North Region

There are a number of attractions to see and visit in the Western North region many of them are natural attractions. Notable sights are the Ankonbra River where you can see fisher man going about their everyday trade and business. The Bia National Park and Biosphere is also a must see as this is also great example of transitional zones between moist evergreen and moist semideciduous forest. with plenty of exotic wildlife to see.  The park offers anumber of walking trails and roads which allow tourist to appreciate the beauty of the forest. Wildlife that can be see are exotic birds, forest elephants and other wild animals. Its well worth a visit.
