Kumasi is the second-largest city in Ghana, located in the Ashanti Region in the southern part of the country. It is often referred to as the “Garden City” due to its beautiful parks and gardens.  Apart from having a wide selections of restaurants and places and nightlife parallel with Accra Kumasi also offers  more  culture and heritage we have listed 10 of these below

Kumasi has a lot to offer as the second largest city in Ghana the vibe of Kumasi is like any other major city with its mix of bustling centres, bars and places to visit, Unlike Accra which is on the coast Kumasi is inland so the only stretches of water you will experience is at Lake Bosomtwe, which is an experience in itself.  Here are 11 things to see and do in Kumas

 

  1. Manhyia Palace Museum: This  place is worth seeing in Kumas as it is the official residence of the King of Ashanti, and is a great place to learn about the history and culture of the Ashanti people.
  2. Kumasi Central Market: The central Market  is one of the largest open-air markets in West Africa, and is a great place to shop for souvenirs and traditional Ghanaian crafts. It gets busy but its worh it for the haggling
  3. Okomfo Anokye Sword Site: This is where the legendary Asante priest Okomfo Anokye is said to have planted a sword into the ground, signifying the unification of the Ashanti Kingdom.
  4. Traditional weaving at Bonwire: This  village near Kumasi is known for its Kente weaving.Visitors can visit the Kente weaving center and learn about the process of making this famous Ghanaian cloth.
  5. Fort and Military Museum: This fort was built by the Dutch in the 17th century, and was later used by the British. The museum inside offers a glimpse into Ghana’s military history.
  6. Kejetia Market: This is the largest market in Kumasi, and offers a wide variety of products, including textiles, food, and household items.
  7. National Cultural Centre: This is a large cultural complex that features an outdoor theater, a museum, and an exhibition hall.
  8. Research Institute of Ghana:  where you can learn about the history of cocoa at the Cocoa. This institute is located just outside Kumasi, and offers tours where you can learn about the history and cultivation of cocoa in Ghana.
  9. Kumasi Zoo and Botanical Gardens: This is a great place to see a variety of wildlife, including monkeys, crocodiles, and birds, as well as a wide range of plants. Great day out for families and kids
  10.  Besease Shrine: This is a traditional shrine that is believed to be the home of the god of fertility and is a great place to learn about traditional Ghanaian religion and culture.
  11. Prempeh II Jubilee Museum: This museum offer a fascinating introduction to Ashanti culture and history. Among the displays are artefacts relating to the Ashanti king Prempeh II, including the king’s war attire, ceremonial clothing, jewellery, protective amulets.
