It was December 2017 in Ghana and you could not go anywhere without hearing Angela by Kuami Eugene., blurting from from radio stations. The song had a sweet melody and upbeat tempo which was supported by a video that was trending on Youtube shot in the volta region. We all remember the story, a young boy trying to woo a girl. But if you didn’t know Angela was not the first song released by Kuami, but it was the most successful release.

Back in 2017 this video was already topping over 3m views, more recently in 2021 this video has amassed over 19m views. If we mark the rapid rise of the views on YouTube this is very much reflected in Kuami Eugene’s musical career.  Since the release of Angela Kuami Eugene has gone on to release a number of hits and done a number of collaborations which have established this young man as a main stay on the Afro beats and Ghana music scene.

Born Eugene Marfo and known by his stage name Kuami Eugene, he is one of the young talented and fastest rising Ghanaian musician who rose to fame as a participant in season 5 of the MTN Hitmaker. e won the New Artist awards in 2018 from the Ghana Music Awards and the Ghana Music Awards UK. He also received the Most Promising Artist in Africa award from AFRIMA.^[3] In 2019, he received 7 nominations at the Ghana Music Awards and went on to win the awards for Album of the Year, Producer of the Year and Highlife Artist of the Year.^[4] He was crowned Artist of the Year and High-life Artist of the Year at the 2020 Ghana Music Awards
