The Kakum National Park is a semi-deciduous rain forest which occupies 234 square miles of fresh green rain forest which is a welcome alternative to all the red dust and the busy city atmosphere in Accra and Kumasi.
Kakum National Park is situated about 33 kilometers (20 miles) north of Cape Coast, It is easily accessible from major cities like Accra and Kumasi by road. Many visitors visit Elmina Castle and then this national park whilst in the Cape Coast area.
The park primarily consists of tropical rainforest, making it one of the few remaining areas in Ghana where such pristine forest habitat is preserved. The rainforest is home to a wide variety of plant and animal species and is a large oasis in the the tropical heat. The park is also home to a diverse array of wildlife, including forest elephants, forest buffalo, various species of monkeys (such as the colobus monkey and Diana monkey), antelope, and many different bird species. The Kakum National Park is also known for its rich insect population, including butterflies and colorful dragonflies. And ff you have ever watched I am a celebrity get me out of here and wanted to experience a high rope walk over a rain forest then you have to visit the Kakum National Park and do the canopy walk. This is one the biggest attractions of the park.
Once you start this canopy walk the only sounds you will hear are the bird calls as you elevated to 30metres above the forest floor. If you suffer from vertigo this may not be the experience for you. Along the walk there are several viewing platforms for you to catch you breath. This is one of the park’s main attractions its that Insta moment to capture.
