Unilez TakyiThis 17-year-old swimmer competed in the women’s 50-meter freestyle at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Unilez was nominated for the “discovery of the year” and “swimming athlete of the year” categories in the 46th Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) awards. Competing on the global stage at such a young age, Unilez is a star waiting to shine.
Daniel Amartey
Daniel AmarteyDaniel joined Leicester City in 2016 as a midfielder/ defender and plays for Ghana’s national team. Daniel has had an illustrious international career that has made him climb the rungs of stardom with minimum friction. His stellar performance at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations earned Ghana fourth position and the “team of the tournament” title. The star made his international debut in 2013 at 19 years old and has risen to be a force to reckon with in matters football.
Benjamin Azamati-Kwaku
Benjamin Azamati-KwakuBorn in January 1998, Benjamin is a budding sprinter celebrated for breaking the 22-year national record previously held by Leo Myles Mills. Benjamin clocked 9.97 seconds and qualified for the Tokyo Summer Olympics. The 23-year-old sprinter has set the stage for international and local accolades by winning gold medals in competitions such as the 2019 African Games held in Rabat.
Samuel Takyi
Samuel TakyiSamuel has been on a winning streak, bagging medals in the men’s featherweight division. The 20-year-old boxer won a bronze medal in the 2020 Summer Olympics after losing to USA’s Duke Ragan in the semi-finals. Samuel started boxing at age eight and joined the Black Bombers team soon after his high school education. Samuel made history at the Tokyo Olympics for winning a medal that had eluded Ghana for 29 years.
Constance Agyemang
Constance AgyemangAs a winger, Constance played for the Beryl Ladies football and was named 2020/2021 Ghana’s women premier league player. Constance is a beast on the pitch, and her outstanding performance has captured the attention of football stakeholders. Unfortunately, Constance has been unable to participate in critical matches such as the Ghana U20 world Cup Qualifier because she was preparing for her final exams at the T.I Ahamadiya Senior High School.
Deborah Acquah
Deborah AcquahDeborah is a long jumper who competed at the 2019 African Games in Morocco and won a silver medal. In February, Deborah competed at the Charlie Thomas Invitational and broke the Texas A&M triple jump record. Acquah is currently the holder of Ghana’s indoor long and triple jump records.
Deborah is pursuing her college education at Texas A&M University. Still, her personal bests keep her on the map as an athlete with immense potential to put her and Ghana on the international front.
