History of December in Ghana

Holidaying in Ghana has always been around three specific times or the year which were linked to school and seasonal holidays.  The first holiday period in Ghana is in April around Easter this time is busy but manageable the weather is cooler and is favoured by families. The second is July to August, the summer holidays season where schools around the world  break up and parents take their kids back home to Ghana for some grounding or just to catch up with family. The final period is December where families unite friends and relatives unite. Flying in from all over the world to come home.
Back in the mid to late 1990s a number of party organisers such as Akwaaba UK pioneered the return to Ghana in December parties and events targeting Universities and their Afro Caribbean societies. This plus the frequent trips by families with their kids planted the seed for holidays in Ghana and the popularity of being in Ghana in  December.

Why is Ghana popular in December?

The Year Of Return was the grandest December event in 2019 that really showed how much  being in Ghana in December had grown.  The 2019 Year of Return was a combination of over 30 events, festivals, tours, exhibitions and music concerts, featuring everyone from Cardi B, Sarkodie, Burna Boy, Shatta Wale to Rick Ross.
