Accra has many attractions to see and things to experience if you are know where to look. For many Accra is just a cool place to hang out either for a weekend when coming in from a different region or if on holiday in Ghana. However, whatever your reason for being in the capital there are a few things you need to tick off your list. Even if you do one each time you are in Accra these popular attractions are a must see and visit.

What are most see attractions in Accra?

There are many things to see in Accra, the most see attractions are mainly historical sites and places that tell the rich history of Accra the capital. Places like Independence Square with its monuments built to celebrate the independence of Ghana. Here you can find, Independence Arch, The Liberation Day Monument and Black Star Gate. Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park & Mausoleum is also a must visit and see attraction as this is where the inspirational first president of an independent Ghana was laid to rest. To continue the historical theme there are a number of interesting slave castles on the Accra coast line. The Ussher Fort built by the Dutch and Fort James built by the British are a good places to visit to see what the coast line of Ghana was like during the slave trade.

Popular attractions to visit with kids and family in Accra

There are many attractions to visit with kids and with families. Considering the heat young kids probably will not be able to spend too long walking around taking in massive loads of historical content. Legon Botanical Gardens is a great place for families and kids to enjoy a day out soaking up the natural habitat and nature that flourishes in Accra. Legon Botanical Gardens offers lots of interactive activities such as children’s playground, children’s and adults assault courses, canoeing, cycling and even fishing all within a lush setting. Beaches also offer a great escape for kids and Families Bojo beach is probably the most recommend as it’s a little away from central Accra and offers a quiet relaxing place for kids and families. Labadi Beach can be a little busy at peak times due to the number of hotels and its popularity it leaves little space to build sand castles. Finally for those tweens and older kids House Party Go Kart and game arcade can help while away a few hours.
