Ghana has a number of castles and forts that were built during the colonial era. During this time the British, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese and French who were all at odds with each other. As they traded minerals, people and fought extensively with the many tribes of Ghana. With most of their notable confrontations with the Ashanti Empire who were the dominant force in the Gold Coast now Ghana.

Where was the Gold Coast located

The Gold Coast and the Ashanti Kingdom was vast and stretched from modern Guinea to present day Nigeria. see map below
