So the first question I hear you are ask, why only 8?
I have seen many websites listing 10 or more night clubs in Accra. Well, this is where we would like to clear things up. Many websites and Ghana YouTubers keep listing bars and lounges in Accra as night clubs when in fact they are not. Night clubs in Accra don’t really sell food and they do not open before 9 pm.

Also to be listed amongst the most recommended nightclubs a venue has to have been mentioned or their details requested more than 10 times a week by users. So I hope this clears a few things up, but let me continue.

What is the difference between bar, lounge and nightclub in Accra

Clubs and bars get mixed up in Accra, I guess if you are a true clubber or raver (showing my age) then you know what I mean by the club and what a bar is. But if you don’t let me quickly break it down for you.

A bar is a place that does not have a permanent dance floor. Usually, the place will open after work and as the evening progresses some tables and chairs will be moved away. Usually, I find that I am with that group that is always sitting in the area that becomes the dance floor.

Whilst a club is dedicated to dancing, expensive overpriced drinks that you tend to only manage one or two as the music keeps you going. Clubs have a permanent dance floor and usually have queues of fine-looking ladies and guys who look like they have spent the whole day grooming. And clubs usually have a Dj booth somewhere above the crowd for those guest PAs as well as if they are big enough VIP sitting areas for when someone famous or people wanting to just pay a little extra to people watching can sit. And most clubs do not serve food. Because how are you going to be eating a kebab and dancing?

Also, the other big difference between a Club and Bar in Ghana is that Clubs you have to pay to get in. But you knew that already right?

So now we have that straightened out we can move on to reviewing the 8 most recommended night clubs in Accra on viewGhana.  If you would like to know the 18 most recommended bars on viewGhana have a look here.

What it’s like to go nightclubbing in Accra

Anyway having travelled around the world and experienced many clubs myself I would say clubbing in Accra is a really cool experience. Living in Ghana you sometimes really just get used to it, being able to go to a club coming out in the early morning and it’s still humid is a nice vibe. Unlike clubbing in places like Spain or the US where the early morning ejection from a club takes you into a cooler morning in Ghana you have to be ready to put your A/C on in the car or make sure that the Ghana UBer driver puts on the A/C.  That morning drive home after being in a club and buying some fresh and koose/akara or bread cannot be beaten.

Remember Ghana especially Accra is famous for its nightlife, so if you are coming in from Kumasi or KofTown, you know that what you are going to experience in Accra is going to be a lot more vibrant, busy and sometimes more pricey.  As soon as the sun goes down from Tema to central Accra it seems that every street corner you can hear the bass pumping and vibrating somewhere. If it’s not a church service you know it’s a club be it an outdoor venue.
