Ghanaian movies to watch on Netflix and their reviews

We should not under estimate the impact of the pandemic in 2020. Not only did the world reset but the realm of entertainment changed too. People were at home and if they did not have family or got tiered of their flat mates they all needed a place to go. All of a sudden the thought of binge watching a box set or a series was no more the preserve of die hard fans or geeks.

Everyone was doing it and they were proud. It seemed like Netflix was in the right place and at the right time. During the first 6 months of the pandemic in 2020 Netflix amassed 26million* new subscribers to their platform reaching a global audience in 190 countries. Not far behind was Disney + which increased its subscribers following the closure of their parks during the time.

This massive growth in streaming services and  platforms meant that people wanted more content. The demand was outstripping the supply. Whilst Disney relied on their back catalogue of films and studio brands Netflix set about democratizing international content. African movies we all of a sudden all over Netflix like the Korean explosion.

What types of Ghanaian content is on Netflix?

There is a wide range of Ghanaian content on Netflix every so often the content is updated. But the most popular types of content on the platform from Ghana are films. The majority of these films at times play concurrently in Silverbird, Golden Eagle cinemas and Snap Cinema in Ghana as well as on the Netflix platform. One of the most viewed Ghanaian films on the platform to date has been Fix Us (2019) starting Yvonne Nelson. This film was released in 2019 just before the pandemic but gained a new lease of life when it was put onto Netflix.
